Originally home of the Ute Indians, Pagosa Springs was named for its
hot springs said to have healing qualities. Pagosa is an Indian word meaning
"boiling water."
With the San Juans to the north and Yellow-Jacket Pass Country to the
west, Pagosa seems like the perfect place to vacation. Pagosa is right
in the center of some of Colorado's best sights and activities.
Go to the Archuleta County Fair in August or listen to a band or two
at the Four Corners Folk Festival on Labor Day weekend. While you are
there be sure to take dip in the hot springs and have a taste of Pagosa's
downtown area shopping.
